Serious concerns over the quality of the foods we eat have given rise to a growing number of health-conscious citizens willing to take responsibility for improving their own well-being. There is abundant evidence to show that an optimal level of nutrition can extend lifespan and improve quality of life. The nutrients in our food are used by the body to promote normal growth, maintenance, and repair.
Creating optimal health through a well-balanced diet is basically a twofold approach. One must stop unhealthy behaviours and increase healthy behaviours. This combination of protecting ourselves against disease by avoiding nutritional pitfalls and increasing our intake of beneficial foods are steps toward better health.
Many people get hooked on junk food. Processed-food manufacturers use hundreds of artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners, and other additives to make us think that we are eating something good. Over time, the natural appetite can be thwarted by years of eating artificial, highly processed foods. Even some of the foods we think are healthy may be highly processed and made with unhealthy ingredients.
Whole food naturally provides the correct balance of nutrients required by our cells. The most nourishing foods are those fresh from the garden. The more a food is altered, processed, or packaged, the less nourishment it provides.
When considering eggs, organic eggs from free-range chickens are a balanced food and the best optin. They contain cholesterol, but this is emulsified by the lecithin that also naturally occurs. Lecithin enables fats, including cholesterol, to be dispersed in water and eliminated from the body. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, sulphur, iron, and vitamin A, and provide a valuable source of vitamin B12for people who do not eat meat. In addition, eggs contain choline, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, tryptophan (which is converted into vitamin B3), biotin folate, pantothenic caid, selenium, zine, phosphorus, magnesium, and calcium. Eggs from free-range chinkens have bright yellow-orange yolks, thick, strong shells, and a better flavour than commercial eggs produced on factory farms. In addition, the eggs from caged chickens contain much lower leves of the beneficial omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids than is found in the eggs of their free-range counterparts.
Our bodies need natural, unprocessed foods. With their abundance of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytochemicals, and enzymes, whole foods are more important than ever to keep us healthy and full of energy.
